- Thomas Umberg
Legislator
Thank you very much. Thank you, Madam Chair and special thank you to you as well as Christian Birkin, for your help in approving this Bill. Here's the purpose of the Bill.
- Thomas Umberg
Legislator
Purpose of the Bill is to make sure that those who are enlisted or Members of the California National Guard, if they advocate extremist views, whether it be with respect to, for example, nazism or white supremacy or the overthrow of the government, that we should not train them. We should not train them to be soldiers.
- Thomas Umberg
Legislator
We should not allow them to lead our national guards people and so that's what this Bill does. It's simply just to be sure that we're not confused, it simply allows them, in essence, to be fired. It doesn't put them in prison. It doesn't put them in the stockade.
- Thomas Umberg
Legislator
It simply says that you would be administratively discharged if you are a member and you advocate for the overthrow of the government, for example, whether it's federal or state, or you wish to enlist or be commissioned, and you advocate these views. That's all it does. I urge an aye vote. Thank you. I am my main witness.
- Pilar Schiavo
Legislator
Okay, wonderful. Any witnesses in support? And anyone in opposition? Okay. Any questions or comments from the Committee? Yes.
- Tasha Boerner
