Bio

Dr. Akilah Weber, 46, is an obstetrician/gynecologist and former city council member in La Mesa. Weber moved to the Senate from the Assembly. She was first elected to the Legislature in 2021 to filling the seat previously held by her mother, Shirley Weber, who was appointed and then elected to be California Secretary of State. Akilah Weber has authored legislation that expands access to contraceptives and bills that aim to improve medical care for victims of domestic and sexual violence and those incarcerated in local jails. She has a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and her medical degree from the University of Rochester Medical School. She has two sons.
