Bio
Jesse Arreguín, 41, most recently served as the mayor of Berkeley – the city’s first Latino mayor, elected in 2016 after three terms as a city councilmember. He’s also vice president of the Association of Bay Area Governments, the Bay Area’s regional planning agency. As mayor, he oversaw Berkeley’s establishment as a sanctuary city for women’s reproductive health and gender-affirming care after the Supreme Court overturned the nation’s right to abortion. As mayor, he also supported the controversial development of People’s Park, which was a homeless camp for decades and a project eventually allowed by the California Supreme Court.
