We ask our guests and visitors in the rear of the gallery to please stand for the prayer and the flag salute. Today's prayer will be offered by our Assembly chaplain, Imam Yasir Khan. Imam Yasir.

In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful, almighty God. As we gather here today, we acknowledge the significance of this moment, a new session for the California State Assembly in the year 2024. We seek guidance, wisdom and blessings as we undertake the responsibilities entrusted to us for the welfare of the people of this great state. Grant our legislators integrity, insight and strength to uphold justice, equality and righteousness in their decisions and actions.

May they navigate the complexities with wisdom, understand the needs of those they represent, and serve with genuine dedication. May this Assembly be blessed with unity, cooperation and understanding, transcending differences for the greater benefit of all Californians. Let us work together respectfully, valuing every voice and fostering an inclusive environment. Guide us in addressing the challenges faced by our state, social, economic, environmental and educational. Grant us the resolve to make decisions that uplift all communities, particularly those in need of support.

Protect our state from harm, discord, and adversity. Shower us with compassion and wisdom, guiding our hearts and minds toward fairness, justice, and empathy. May our legislative endeavors be guided by wisdom and result in policies that promote peace, prosperity and well being for every resident of California. May our efforts pave the way for a brighter future. Bless this Assembly, its Members, their families, and the diligent staff. May our actions be a force for positive change and benefit for all. May our collective efforts be aligned with goodness and contribute to the welfare of humanity. Amen.
