Thank you, Madam Speaker and Members, I rise to adjourn in memory of Anne Wilman, who passed away on January 6, 2023, at the age of 54. Anne was born in Woodland, California, to Don and Doris Sloan. She was the youngest of three children. Anne moved to Chico in 1990 to attend Chico State. Like many who come to Chico State, she decided to stay, and she not only put down roots in this community, but she helped it grow and flourish.
- James Gallagher
Legislator
She was fortunate to have had a career that she loved as the General Manager of the Chico Area Recreation and Parks District. She loved serving her community and making it a better place to live. During her tenure, she helped build the Rotary Centennial Park, renovate the Humboldt Avenue Skate Park, and oversaw the creation of the Creekside Rose Garden where her memorial will be held. Anne retired in 2022 due to health issues associated with her cancer diagnosis.
- James Gallagher
Legislator
She was supported by wonderful family and friends during this time and spent the succeeding year bravely sharing her journey on social media. On December 31, Anne shared her thoughts about the gratitude she felt towards her village sharing the following thoughts. Find the positive in each day. It's okay to cry every day, but I want to find the positive each day as well. Do not confuse that with always being happy. I see it as just finding at least one simple positive in the day. Who knows?
- James Gallagher
Legislator
The simple positive might make me cry, too. Anne was an inspiration to many in our community and was always known as a loving, kind, and adventurous person. Anne is survived by her husband, Hans, three children, Allison, Maddie, and Grace, her father, Don, and his lovely wife, Avis, and brother, David. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Therefore, today I ask that the Assembly adjourn in memory of Anne Wilman.
- Stephanie Nguyen
