In the military we call this service standing the watch. If you'd indulge me for a second, I'd like to read you a poem which was written long ago called the watch. For 44 years this soldier has stood the watch. While some of us were in our bunks at night, this soldier stood the watch.

While some of us were in school learning our trade, this soldier stood the watch. Yes, even before some of us were born into this world, this soldier stood the watch. In those years when the clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history, this soldier stood the watch.

He stood the watch so that our families, our fellow countrymen, and we could sleep soundly in safety each and every night, knowing this soldier stood the watch.
