Please join me in a moment of reflection. It is interesting that Confucius has said one who wishes to be a leader of others should play music for four hours a day. It is also said that the historical Buddha would engage in solitary meditation for four hours a day.
- Patti Oshita
Person
And interestingly, the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu began each day with four hours of quiet prayer. Whether it is playing music, meditating or praying. I feel these spiritual leaders are encouraging the need to engage in calming self reflection in order to keep ourselves centered.
- Patti Oshita

If we allow ourselves to listen deeply in trying to play music, we can hear and reflect on how we feel. It's impossible to play when we are angry or preoccupied. So too is it impossible to meditate or pray when we are upset, distracted and unfocused.
- Patti Oshita

And the greater the responsibility of leadership, the more there is a need for deep and quiet reflection in each day. Remembering again the humility it takes to truly lead, let us all embrace our responsibilities of leadership with daily self reflection.
- Patti Oshita

Whether it is with music, meditation or prayer, self reflection can help us focus and undistracted as we continue to set the bar of leadership high. Gratitude and kindness beyond words.

Thank you, madam- miss -...thank you Mr. Speaker and Members. I ask today that this body adjourn in the memory of Baldwin Park's hero, Officer Samuel Riveros.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
Samuel, known as Sammy to his friends, was the embodiment of bravery, selflessness, and courage. These characteristics were demonstrated by the circumstances surrounding his death earlier this month when he rushed in to save his partner, Officer Anthony Pimentel, during a tragic shooting in the City of Baldwin Park.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
Sammy is remembered fondly for his kindness and generous spirit by his colleagues, his community Members and his family. He had a passion for snowboarding, he loved the Dodgers, and loved the work that he did.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
He graduated from UC Irvine, entered the public safety training on April 3, 2016, and he became a sworn officer just a few months later. Sami then became a SWAT Team member, bringing his dedication and specialization with him, serving for over five years.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
Most recently, he was appointed as a field training officer, where he continued not only practicing his specialization, but also serving as a mentor to his colleagues.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
At this time, I want to take a moment to to acknowledge the courage of Officer Anthony Pimento, who was injured in the line of duty, and to honor the memory of Darius Wong, a civilian who tragically lost his life during the incident.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
Officer Samuel Riveros' end of watch was May 31, 2025 but his warmth, his leadership and care will be remembered forever. Samuel is survived by his mother, Lily, his stepfather Daniel, his sister Lillian, and his two brothers, Jorge and Daniel.
- Blanca Rubio
Legislator
He's also survived by the officers and Members of the Baldwin Park Police Department, countless friends, and the 48th Assembly District, who is deeply grateful for his service. The loss of such an exemplary man is one that is not easy to accept, but is one that was made out of the dedication, heroism, and unbelievable courage.
