And we leave after exhausting hours and we come back as good friends. And I hope we can continue that. Legislator

Well, thank you, Mr. Speaker. Colleagues today rise to adjourn in memory of Roman Rojtas-Vogelsang, the beloved son of our Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports and Tourism Committee Secretary, Tabitha Vogelsang, and a value Member of our extended capital community.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Roman was born in Sacramento on July 30, 1997 and he was deeply loved by his parents, Tabitha and Rick, and his sisters, Lauren and Megan, and later in life, his husband, Sasha. Their bonds were one of both family and friendship. From a young age, Roman's bright personality shone through.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Affectionately called Doobie, he grew into a warm, vibrant young man with a passion for music, comedy, cooking, and learning interests that defined much of his life. He had a natural elegance and curiosity, a sharp sense of style, a talent preparing food and wine, and a capacity to bring joy into every room.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Roman was known for his infectious laugh and for making everyone feel seen and appreciated. Roman pursued excellence in all that he did. He was musically gifted, just like his father. He was intellectually sharp and driven by a strong sense of justice. He graduated magna cum laude from Sacramento State with degrees in political science and economics.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Now, he was raised here in this capital community and specifically in the Assembly. He was coming to work with his mom as a child and always admiring her and her service to the state.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

He shared a story just before our session today about how he was often known to be seen in the hallways, sometimes even leading his own classmates through the building because he knew it so well, they almost thought it was his home.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

He aspired to work in this sphere as he grew up, and of course, he did just that. He quickly became admired in our broader capital community, first at Apria&Co. And later as a policy analyst and a lobbyist with Capital Advocacy. Roman was widely regarded as a rising star in California public policy.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

He began a beautiful life with his husband, Sasha Reutes. The relationship was tender, supportive, and full of shared dreams. They were married in September at Roman's bedside, a powerful testament to love and devotion. Roman's passing came suddenly, and he faced every challenge with courage, surrounded by his family's unwavering love.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Celebration of Life was held here in Sacramento in September and was standing room only, and you heard several themes from the conversations there. That his friendships were true, that his passion for policy was sincere that he was a healer to many and that decency guided his every moment.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

His loss is profound for Sasha, for Tabitha, for Rick and their family, and for his many friends and for all who knew him.

  • Chris Ward

    Legislator

Roman's humor, compassion and radiant energy made a lasting impact on everyone he encountered and so behalf on the State of the State Assembly, we offer our deepest condolences to the Vogelsang family and the Reutes family colleagues. I ask that we adjourn today in memory of Roman Rojtas-Vogelsang, whose light and legacy will never be. Forgotten.

  • Josh Lowenthal

    Legislator

Thank you Assemblymember Ward Members, let us observe a moment of silence to honor this historic California. Assemblymember Sharp Collins. You are recognized for your adjournment in Memory.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

Thank you, Mr. Chair Speaker. Today we honor a remarkable man, Pastor Glenn Arthur McKinney Senior A man whose life was defined by love, faith and service. Pastor McKinney was a native of San Diego, rooted in the community and deeply committed to his people.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

He carried forward a powerful legacy as senior pastor of St. Stephen's Cathedral Church of God in Christ, a church founded by his father, the late Bishop George McKinney, that has stood as an anchor in San Diego's inner city for more than 60 years.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

When Pastor McKinney was appointed in 2021, he stepped into leadership with humility, vision and clear commitment to love God and love people. He stepped into ministry the day of his father's service. What made Pastor McKinney so special was not just what he did, but how he did it.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

He had a way of making people feel seen, heard and valued. He met no stranger. Whether you were a longtime Member of his church, a young person searching for direction, or someone simply in need of encouragement. He welcomed you with open arms, a warm smile and genuine care.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

He had a special heart for youth and also for children. Through his ministry, he worked with the Urban Youth Collaborative and his everyday presence in the community, he poured into young people, guiding them, listening to them and reminding them that their lives truly does matter.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

He believed in second chances, in growth, and in the power of faith to transform lives. At his core, Pastor McKinney was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carol, and a proud, loving father to Glenn, Jr, Janae and Quincy.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

His love for his family was evident in everything that he did, and that love extended outward into the community as he served truly faithfully.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

Pastor McKinney lived a life of service, from counseling students at Job Corps, to working with community leaders and in the Black Advisory Board, to supporting seniors through the St. Stephen's Retirement center that his father and family founded. His passion for people never wavered, and his serve because he truly cared.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

He was a scholar, he was a preacher, he was a mentor, and he was a wonderful musician who actually worked with so many celebrity artists. So if you guys ever heard the song by Brandy, I Want to Be down, and you heard that good bass guitar. That was him. That was him.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

His laughter was contagious, his spirit was uplifting, and his love was real. So today I'm asking. Well, I'm not asking, but I know today we are still grieving his loss, but we also are celebrating his life. His life was lived and it was full. So I'm asking us to celebrate that life.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

As his passing was sudden, he went to a convention and went to sleep and never woke up. Pastor Glenn McKinney, Senior leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion and hope that will continue to live on through his family, his church, and every life he has touched.

  • Lashae Sharp-Collins

    Legislator

So I say to you once again, as I did on that day, farewell. Rest well, Pastor McKinney, and thank you for your love, your leadership, and that light. You will forever be in our hearts in the city of San Diego and now in the hearts of the state of California. I ask that we adjourn in Pastor McKinney's. Memory.
