Bio
Angelique Ashby, 51, is a former Sacramento City Council member. She was elected to the Senate in 2022, narrowly beating former insurance commissioner Dave Jones. Ashby was a single mother when she earned a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis. She later earned a law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. After college, she opened a consulting firm with her father. She was elected to the Sacramento City Council in 2012 and held her seat until her election to state office. In the Senate, she pushed for reducing college debt for foster children and created an independent redistricting commission for Sacramento County. She’s married and has three children.
