Avelino Valencia, 37, is a former college football player and coach. He served on the Anaheim City Council for a term. He attended Fullerton College and then San Jose State University on a football scholarship. He played tight end and briefly pursued a career in the NFL. He has a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and was district director for former Assemblymember Tom Daly. Avelino is married to his high school sweetheart, a local elementary school principal.
