Bio
Tony Strickland, 56, was a Huntington Beach city councilmember and a former legislator who served in the state Assembly from 1998 to 2004 and the state Senate from 2008 to 2012. He won the seat in a special election, taking over the seat of former State Sen. Janet Nguyen. In 2016, Strickland was fined $40,000 for campaign finance violations by the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission in his bid for state controller. As a member of the city council and as mayor, Strickland fought the state of California on affordable housing mandates. As a state senator, Strickland wants to bring the Elon Musk-style “Department of Government Efficiency” to California. Â
