Fiona Ma, 60, is a certified public accountant, former assemblymember and Board of Equalization member who is running for lieutenant governor in 2026. In 1994, she was elected president of the Asian Business Association. She served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for four years. She also served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business. In 1995, she was first appointed to the Assessment Appeals Board by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She was elected to the Assembly in 2006.
Job Description
The treasurer is the state’s chief asset manager and financier who oversees investments, state debt and major financial programs. The office manages the state’s investment account, serves on the boards that manage pensions for public employees — CalPERS and CalSTRS — and helps finance public works projects statewide. The office has around 250 employees and a budget of $48 million.
