Bio

Juan Alanis, 46, spent 27 years as a Stanislaus County law enforcement officer, most recently as a sheriff’s sergeant. He ran for sheriff in 2018 but was defeated by Jeff Dirkse, the current sheriff. Alanis retired from the sheriff’s office after winning his Assembly seat. Alanis has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Stanislaus State University. He authored a bill that allows police cadets to train with assault rifles. He and his wife have three children.
