As you may have noticed, we have pivoted today to be over here in the swing space out of an abundance of caution. So we are going to have an abbreviated session. So when we call roll, we're going to ask members to verbally say present or here. Gracious and loving Creator. In these days, when trees and flowers are blooming in profusion, give us renewed hope in our ability to mend the brokenness of our world. Because in the words of Denise Levertov's poem Beginners we have only begun to love the earth. We have only begun to imagine the fullness of life. How could we tire of hope? So much is in bud. How can desire fail? We have only begun to imagine justice and mercy, only begun to envision how it might be to live as siblings with beasts and flower not as oppressors. Surely our river cannot already be hastening into the sea of nonbean. Surely it cannot drag in the silt all that is innocent. Not yet. Not yet. There is too much broken that must be mended. Too much hurt we have done to each other that cannot yet be forgiven. We have only begun to know the power that is in us if we would join our solitudes in the communion of struggle. So much is unfolding that must complete its gesture. So much is in bud. Amen.

Thank you, Madam President. Colleagues, today file item 28 is a confirmation of Sheriff Shannon Dicus for appointment to the State Board of Community Corrections. Sheriff Dykes has about 40 years of law enforcement experience with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office. He's a former United States Army veteran, the 101st Airborne Division, and his biggest accomplishment, I think that he has that we would all appreciate that he's devoted to the citizens of this state. He's always looking for new and innovative ways to better serve the individuals in this state. And he believes in developing progressive programs not only to assist the public, but also those reentering society. And the way that he collaborates with the community is extraordinary. And I respectfully ask for an I vote.

Prior to this rule, Dr. Kozel was serving as a senior psychologist Supervisor for the Board's Forensic Assessment Division. She was approved by the Rules Committee on March 15 with the unanimous 5-0 vote.

File item 30, colleagues, is a confirmation of William Munice for appointment to the Board of Parole Hearings. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Chief Deputy Administration of Prison and Employment Initiative in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was approved on the Rules Committee on March 15.

File item 31, colleagues, is a confirmation of David Dudim, who is for the appointment for the Parole Board of Hearings. Prior to his role, he was serving the Board as a Deputy Commissioner Administrative Law Judge, and he was approved on the Rules Committee on March 15 on a 5-0 vote. Respectfully ask for your I vote.

32 is a confirmation of Alita Belem for appointment to the Water Quality Control board of the San Francisco Bay region. She's a principal of Alita Bielim Consulting, LLC, and previously served as a senior counselor for the Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Interior. She was approved by the Rules Committee on a March 15, 5-0 vote. Respectfully asked for your aye vote.

I am so sorry that this interrupts some incredibly important people who were here today from the public to be recognized on any number of very important occasions. And so, to all of those individuals publicly, I want to express my deepest apologies that we are caught up in a situation in which we have to adjust and make changes that limit our ability to do everything we would like to be able to do. But I do want to, again, thank the secretary who, upon hearing from our Sergeant Rodriguez and from CHP, and I certainly want to thank Bernie and her staff, because to be able to move that quickly as people were actually supposed to be here, I just want to say thank you. And to all of the staff, all of our staff, I want to say thank you to you as well. We consider your safety of the utmost importance as well. Let me just ask. As we exit, there will be increased security. But that does not mean you should not be mindful. You should not pay attention every step of the way from here until you get home safely.
