Thank you, Mr. Speaker and Members, it is with great sadness that I rise to request that we adjourn the memory of Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Isaiah Cordero. He was a resident of Ranch Cucumanga. A constituent, deputy Cordero was tragically shot during a traffic stop on December 29, 2022. He was 32 years old and an eight year veteran of the Sheriff's Department.

He was a public servant, community leader, and he was highly regarded by those around him. He was a role model to his family and so many in the Inland Empire, especially his nephews. As we heard about during the services, from handing out Christmas presents to children to guiding those around him, Deputy Cordero's legacy is one of honor and compassion.

A strong and caring person. Deputy Cordero brought Positivity and Levity to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Other deputies in the Riverside County Sheriff's Department would often describe Deputy Cordero as their little brother. I had the privilege of attending Deputy Cordero services on Friday.

The show of support and heartfelt condolences reminded us that Deputy Calderon was part of many families. Law enforcement representatives from the Inland Empire, from California and throughout the US. New York, Florida and so many other states were present to support Deputy Cordero's parents and family.

His mother's words during the service reminded us that Isaiah was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. From Cordero's early commitment to service, his family knew he was destined to serve those around him. He embodied the idea of serving to protect, putting service above self. Deputy Cordero protected the Inland Empire residents every day of his service.

Deputy Cordero lived by the motto Service Before Self, which was written on his motorcycle. He shared this passion with those around him, and he encouraged his cousin, David Padilla to join the Sheriff's Department. Davies recently graduated from the San Bernardino Sheriff's Academy and will continue the legacy of his cousin. As we reflect today, I want to acknowledge the service of Isaiah Calderon, deputy Sheriff leader and hero to the Cordero family.

I want to extend my deepest condolences and hope that you will find peace in mathis time of great grief. The Inland Empire is in debt for the service of your son and brother. Members, I ask that we join that you join me in honoring Deputy Isaiah codeero. And like him, remember to be kind to those you meet each day and remember to display the highest level of service to all. I ask that you join me in adjourning in the memory of Deputy Isaiah Cordero.

Colleagues, I rise today to adjourn in memory of Deputy Isaiah Cordero. On Thursday, December 29, shortly before 02:00 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Isaiah Cordero was fatally shot by a convicted felon at a traffic stop. Deputy Cordero was an eight year law enforcement veteran who worked as a corrections deputy and recently became a motorcycle deputy.

In September, Deputy Cordero will be remembered as a ray of sunshine and a person who was dedicated to protecting others by his family and friends. His law enforcement family considered him their little brother, and Deputy Cordero was known for always having a smile on his face. He had a passion for working with local children and would never hesitate to assist someone in need.

Deputy Isaiah Cordero is survived by his parents, sister, girlfriend, and will be missed by the entire Riverside Sheriff Department and the community he served. May we never forget the ultimate sacrifice that he made for each and every one of us. Today, we honor Deputy Cordero's selfless service, and with much respect and gratitude, we adjourn in his memory.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker and Members, I rise today to join my Inland Empire colleagues in asking that this house adjourn in the memory of Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Isaiah Cordero. As many of you know, our Inland community lost Deputy Cordero on December 29 after he was tragically killed during a traffic stop.

Deputy Cordero had been assigned to the Herupa Valley Sheriff's Station, which is in the district that I represent. He was seen as a rising star within the Sheriff's Department. Just this September, Deputy Cordero graduated from motor school, allowing him to serve as a motorcycle deputy.

This graduation was a milestone in graduating. He achieved a longtime goal that he had since joining the Riverside County Sheriff's Department min 2014. He was honored excuse me. I was honored to attend Deputy Cordero's funeral to pay my respects for his service, his selfish service to our community within the Inland Empire.

It was obvious, as you hear from other statements by our colleagues, how beloved he was and particularly the time that he spent with children in our own community. It's tragic that he lost his life right after Christmas. This holiday was a special time for Deputy Cordero. He would sometimes give children Christmas gifts behind the back of his motor cop vehicle.

One year, he actually accompanied Santa Claus to visit a family who had just lost a husband and a father. Deputy Cordera was taken from his family, his loved ones, our Inland Empire community far too early. We will forever keep his memory in our min and in our hearts.

He was well known for his sense of humor and his deep friendships that he had that he formed during his time with the Sheriff's Department colleagues. I ask that this Assembly today adjourn in the memory of Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Isaiah Cordero.

And Mr. Speaker, as part of this adjournment in memory, I'd like to welcome Jurupa Valley Mayor Chris Bauerkahan and Jurupa Valley City Council Member Leslie Algamidano, who are both with us in the back of the chamber. As a Member of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Jurupa Valley Station deputy Cordera was a treasured part of our Jurupa Valley community.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I rise today to adjourn the State Assembly in the memory of Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Isaiah Calderon, who was tragically killed in the line of duty the afternoon of December 29. Everyone who knew Isaiah described him as the quiet, polite, and a humble man. Isaiah grew up between Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.

Being of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent, he belonged to a large family, and his family adored and admired his pursuit of life of service to others. Isaiah attended Cajon High School, where he played football for two years. As an offensive tight end, he drove a 1966 white Ford Mustang. Sharing his father's love of cars.

Isaiah began his service with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office as a correctional deputy on May 5, 2014. In February of 2018, he began the 204th Basic Academy and was promoted to Deputy sheriff. Deputy Cordero then completed motor school in September of 2022 and was currently assigned to a motor enforcement on December 29.

Just a few weeks ago and just four months into his new motor assignment, deputy Cordero was killed doing what he loved protecting and serving the people of Riverside County. He initiated a traffic stop in the residential area of Jurupa Valley. Deputy Cordero did not know it, but he had just stopped. Not just a wanted, dangerous felon, but pure evil itself.

Without warning, the driver opened fire at the deputy, ending his life at the age of 32. Never again would he see his mother, father, brother, friends or colleagues. What makes this the ultimate tragedy is that his murder was preventable. The individual that killed deputy Cordero had a long violent criminal history and had recently been convicted of his third felony strike.

He should have been serving 25 years to life in prison. But instead he was free to roam the streets and free to hurt more innocent victims. Rather than being sentenced, he was released on bail. I attended his memorial service last Friday it was inspiring to see the community come together to honor Deputy Cordero.

Residents lined the street for miles to say goodbye and hundreds of officers traveled from all over the nation to pay their respects. It was heartbreaking to listen to deputy Cordero's mother, Rebecca Cordero, speak about the son she had lost just a week ago. She could barely speak.

The pain and grief she was experiencing was visible and I can only imagine unbearable. Holding back her tears, she said, quote, the documented end of watch cause of death was gunfire. The actual cause of death was disdain, disrespect, disregard and a dysfunctional system. Unquote, Deputy Cordero made the ultimate sacrifice, and for that he is a true hero.

Let us resolve to not let his death be in vain. Let us never forget what happened to Deputy Cordero. Let us keep his memory in mind as we conduct our sacred business in this body. I adjourn today's Assembly session and memory of Deputy Isaiah Albert Cordero. May god bless Deputy Cordero, may god bless his family and may god bless the men and women in law enforcement. Thank you, Mr. Speaker and Members. Today I also rise to journey in memory of Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Isaiah Cordero of Rancho Cucumonga. Cordero's life was tragically cut short during a routine traffic stop and was laid to rest this past Friday by his loved ones and law enforcement family.

Honoring his life today takes on the special importance as this national law enforcement appreciation day. May we express our gratitude to all our law enforcement personnel, not just today, but every day as they risk their lives for our safety each time they go out in the field.

As a parent of a law enforcement officer, my greatest fear is that Michelle and I may lose our son in the line of duty. My heart goes out to the Cordell's family as we keep them in our prayers throughout this difficult time. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Members, it is my distinct honor to introduce in the back of the chambers Bill Young, President of the Riverside Sheriff's Association. Bill's been President since 2017 and represents the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the second largest sheriff's Department in California.

Currently, the Riverside Sheriff's Association represents over 4000 Members from the sheriff's Department, the coroner's office, the district attorney's office and the probation Department. Sadly, Bill's visit to our chamber is to honor Deputy Cordero, his fallen colleague. Bill brought each of us a small stash with the badge number of Deputy Cordero, badge number 5662.

And you can pick those up in the Members lounge if you haven't grabbed one already. As a token of remembrance for Deputy Cordero. Thank you for that Bill. Members, I ask that you help me welcome Riverside County Sheriff's Association President Bill Young to the Assembly floor.
