Existing law creates the State Department of Public Health with various powers and duties.

This bill would require the department to conduct a study to determine the noise and vibration levels associated with all railroad lines in the vicinity of residential areas or schools.

Existing law authorizes the Department of Transportation to contract with Amtrak for intercity rail passenger services and provides funding for these services from the Public Transportation Account.This bill would require the department to conduct a study to determine the noise and vibration levels, associated with the operation of state-funded intercity rail passenger services, that impact residential areas or schools along railroad lines where the department contracts for those services.
