1. There are a number of bodies to which the governor may make appointments where a veteran or military service member is an obvious fit. But there are others, such as the Student Aid Commission and Board of Parole Hearings, where it is not immediately obvious, but where a veteran’s perspective may be useful.

“Without adequate representation on state commissions, the needs of military members and families may not be addressed or fully understood. California has the highest active-duty population in the nation, with 150,563 service members as of 2015, and the highest Selected Reserve population of 57,791 military persons; spouses and children make up an additional 170,127.”
