Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder that occurs in one out of every 700 to 1,000 births meaning the vast majority of us know someone born with Down syndrome. What this community has taught me is that along with the struggles of everyday life for those with Down syndrome, there is also a lot of hope and beauty. Down syndrome awareness is very important to me as we make scientific and social strides of acceptance, which is why I feel honored to join with Assemblymembers Grayson, Mathis, and Lackey to author ACR 26 which proclaims March 19, 2023 to March 25, 2023 as California Down Syndrome Awareness Week, and March 21, 2023 as California Down Syndrome Day.
