Existing law prohibits a person from using a recreational vessel unless, among other things, there is at least one wearable personal flotation device on board the vessel for each person on the vessel, as provided. Existing law provides for the establishment and enforcement of various product safety standards for consumer products, as provided. Existing law provides various requirements relating to safe recreational water use.

This bill would, on or after January 1, 2026, prohibit a person or entity from manufacturing, selling, delivering, distributing, holding, or offering for sale in commerce in this state a wearable personal flotation device, as defined, that is not approved by the United States Coast Guard.
