WHEREAS, Necrotizing fasciitis was first described in medical literature in 1883 and was originally described as a disease of unknown cause; and
WHEREAS, Necrotizing fasciitis is an uncommon clinical disease of the layers of tissue under the skin that is often referred to in popular culture as the flesh-eating bacteria or virus; and

Comments
According to the author:
Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare bacterial infection that spreads quickly in the body and can cause death. Accurate diagnosis, rapid antibiotic treatment, and prompt surgery are important to stopping this infection. Symptoms can be confusing and can develop quickly, so most people may not be aware of this rare disease until they go see a doctor. ACR 129 seeks to provide more awareness of the flesh-eating disease, necrotizing fasciitis by declaring May as necrotizing fasciitis awareness month.
